Why a single EDC?
The schedule below clearly shows that setting up one single European Distribution Centre (EDC) does pay off.

The cost of transport (represented in grey) remains the same, no matter how your supply chain management is organised. However, enormous savings can be realized by choosing a centrally located EDC, in comparison to decentralised distribution centres, since the inventory costs (represented in yellow) and warehousing costs (represented in red) can be substantially reduced.
How Nike serves Europe, the Middle-east and Africa
Nike EMEA (Europe, Middle-east, Africa) Logistics Center has become the logistic knowledge centre of Nike EMEA. All logistic activities between 200(!) factories and 30,000 clients are coordinated form Nike’s European Logistic Centre in Laakdal (Antwerp Region, Belgium). Nike ELC manages the warehouses, the transport facilities, the information and communication systems and offers innovative logistic solutions tailored to the client’s needs. Nike ELC supplies customers with sports wear (apparel), sports equipment and sport shoes (footwear).

This Centre is a perfect example of one single EDC serving a large market (Europe, Middle-east and Africa), thus bringing overall logistical costs to a minimum.
